Giles Paley-Phillips has built a career on kindness. From his award-winning children’s books like The Fearsome Beastie, Tamara Small and the Monsters’ Ball, and Superchimp to his award-winning Podcast Blank, Giles has explored the power of positivity.
Giles strives to be the most positive account on Twitter, constantly tweeting kind words and encouraging affirmations. In an attempt to combat doom-scrolling, Giles has attempted to create a space where social media is silly and joyful. Giles knows that this type of quality connection can only be constructed through kindness and humour.
“It’s so important for us all to be able to have a sense of humour. I think that’s got to be our first thing is to not take ourselves too seriously in life.”
As a host of podcast focused on the humour and humanity that keeps people going, Giles has learned that gratitude is the greatest tool to stay positive. For Giles, your gratitude determines your attitude. In order to stay positive and keep kind, Giles spends the time thinking of the things he’s thankful for.
Through positivity and kindness all is possible. Sharing something silly or offering a kind comment can make someone’s day and build a human connection that can last a lifetime. Next time you are feeling down in the dumps, Giles says to make the active choice to be kind and experience the power of positivity and the humanity in a sense of humour.
“I think there’s always an option to be positive or kind or take something with humour. I think there is always that within us.”
